Members of the Buk-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City commemorated the victims on the 10th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry disaster.
The Buk-gu council members recently issued a statement saying, "Although 10 years have passed since the great tragedy that claimed 304 lives, our society remains unsafe, from the October 29 Itaewon disaster to the Osong underground passage flooding."
They added, "Efforts to remember social disasters are about establishing proper social values, and true mourning begins with remembering the fading voices."
They continued, "The truth has not yet been fully revealed, and those responsible have not been properly punished," and stated, "We must act to uncover the full truth of the disaster and build a nation where life and safety are respected."
Furthermore, they pledged, "The Buk-gu Council will remember the Sewol Ferry disaster and, together with the 430,000 residents of Buk-gu, will continue to strive for the full investigation of the Sewol Ferry incident until the end."
