This project was initiated to strengthen the safety of vulnerable evacuees such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and children who have difficulty evacuating smoothly in the event of a fire, and to establish evacuation safety measures, based on cooperation among Jeju Fire Department, the two administrative cities, the Office of Education, and related associations.
Recently, Jeju Fire Department held a meeting with related organizations at the Jeju Fire Station conference room, demonstrating the use of smoke masks and emergency transport sheets, and discussing the quantity and distribution methods of supplies for each target group.
The distribution targets include a total of 1,372 locations such as nursing hospitals, daycare centers, and senior citizen centers in the province, and customized evacuation supplies considering the vulnerabilities of each facility will be distributed by the end of next month.
In particular, smoke masks that prevent inhalation of toxic gases will be distributed to all facilities to enable urgent evacuation in case of fire, and nursing hospitals will additionally receive triage tags that classify the rescue order of patients who have difficulty evacuating on their own, as well as emergency transport sheets for the rapid rescue of immobile patients.
Go Min-ja, Chief of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “We will eliminate safety vulnerabilities by distributing fire evacuation supplies tailored to the characteristics of each vulnerable evacuee,” and added, “We will actively strive to realize a safe Jeju without blind spots through close cooperation with related organizations.”
