A Communication Forum for the Mutual Growth of Universities and Local Communities
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 16th that it held a communication meeting in the county office situation room to strengthen on-site communication through participation and empathy, with County Governor Gu In-mo, Kim Jae-gu, President of Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College, and 10 executives including the president of the Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College Student Council participating.
The meeting was organized to discuss and communicate ways for the university and the region, which are facing extinction due to the decline in school-age population and rapid changes in industrial structure, to grow together. The county shared major ongoing projects and their outcomes and listened to students' opinions.

Gu In-mo, Governor of Geochang-gun, said, “Although the time was short, it was a meaningful occasion where we could vividly hear the sincere opinions of university students and the cooperation of the Student Council for the development of Geochang-gun.” He added, “Starting with this meeting, I hope that the youth in our region will participate more actively in county administration, and we will continue to strive to make Geochang-gun an educational city where students want to come and settle.”
Kim Jae-gu, President of Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College, stated, “At a time when regional and university development and sustainable mutual growth are necessary, I believe today’s meeting is very meaningful. Our university will also actively cooperate with the region to develop into a competitive and specialized university through innovation.”
Park Min-gyu, president of the Student Council, said, “Thanks to the county’s active support, we are making very good use of the nursing department lecture building, which was expanded and opened in March this year. We look forward to Geochang-gun’s university policy projects that think and consider once more from the students’ perspective.”
Meanwhile, despite difficult financial conditions, the county is supporting a total budget of about 2 billion KRW this year to improve the educational environment of Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College, including 1 billion KRW for the dormitory construction project and 300 million KRW for the lifelong education center environment improvement project.
