Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam signed a friendship agreement on 'Marina Cultural Industry' with the Australian Marina Industries Association at the Holiday Inn Potts Point Hotel in Sydney, Australia.

On the 15th, Jo Myeong-rae, the 2nd Vice Mayor of Changwon Special City, and Susan Davis, the representative of the Australian Marina Industries Association, promised to cooperate mutually to revitalize the marina cultural industry and enhance cooperative relations.

Jongmyongrae, Changwon Special City 2nd Vice Mayor, Promotes Changwon and Signs Agreements in Marine, Urban, and Cultural Fields in Australia Jomyeong-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, visited Australia to sign agreements with local organizations in the fields of marine, urban, and culture, and to promote Changwon.

Changwon Special City signed this agreement ahead of major marine marina projects such as the Jinhae Myeongdong Marina and the creation of a new marine city.

The Australian Marina Industries Association is an organization that fosters and supports the marina industry through education, promotion, environmental certification programs, and research projects, and has recently expanded its activities to Asia, including New Zealand and Singapore.

Through this agreement, it is expected that Changwon Special City will receive significant support in promoting related projects such as the marine marina and tourism industry cluster development.

After listening to the briefing by Susan Davis, Vice Mayor Jo said, “Australia is a leading country in the marine marina sector, and there are many aspects for our city to benchmark. I hope the Marina Industries Association will show great interest and support.”

In response, Susan Davis, representative of the Marina Industries Association, replied, “The Marina Industries Association is a non-profit support organization with members from companies worldwide, and we hope to work together to revitalize the marina industry in Changwon City.”

Vice Mayor Jo expressed his future aspirations, saying, “Through this agreement with the Australian Marina Industries Association, we will accelerate the promotion of our city’s marine marina projects, including the development of Myeongdong Marina.”

Additionally, Vice Mayor Jo visited the Korean Cultural Center in Sydney, located in Sydney, Australia.

The Korean Cultural Center in Sydney is a cultural diplomatic mission under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, located on Elizabeth Street in downtown Sydney, which promotes Korean culture and operates cultural programs for Sydney citizens.

Vice Mayor Jo met with Yoon Seon-min, the director of the Korean Cultural Center in Sydney, and they agreed to actively cooperate in promoting Korean and Changwon culture to the Australian public.

During the conversation, Vice Mayor Jo introduced Changwon’s cultural strategy, stating, “While culture itself is an industry, it is time to consider how to incorporate culture into other industries such as industrial complexes. There are industries like tourism where culture is clearly visible, but we can strengthen industries by creating industrial complexes with culture embedded.”

In response, Director Yoon Seon-min said, “In Sydney’s case, due to the industrial characteristics, there is no secondary manufacturing industry that acts as a backbone between primary industries and tertiary and quaternary industries such as tourism. This caused a significant impact during COVID-19. The Sydney city government has announced strategies to revitalize secondary industries and is making efforts to promote manufacturing industries. We are very grateful that Changwon City visited directly, and we will do our best to promote Korean culture.”
