Macron: "Iran Should Be Met with Isolation and Stronger Sanctions"

French President Emmanuel Macron stated on the 15th (local time) that peace in the region must be restored by isolating Iran in response to Iran's airstrikes on mainland Israel.

President Macron made these remarks during a live radio broadcast with local media on the same day.

He said, "Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles into Israeli territory, which is an unprecedented form," and evaluated, "Israel can be considered victorious as it intercepted almost all the missiles and drones that fell on its territory."

Furthermore, to prevent escalation, he argued, "We must persuade Israel to find a way to restore peace in the region by isolating Iran, strengthening sanctions, and increasing pressure on its nuclear activities."

President Macron is scheduled to have a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the afternoon regarding this matter.

President Macron also revealed that when Iran attacked Israel, French forces stationed in Jordan shot down Iranian drones in cooperation with the United States and the United Kingdom.

He explained, "The (French) air force stationed in Jordanian territory carried out strict protective and defensive interceptions on the night of the 13th," adding, "Since Jordanian airspace was violated by Iran's attack, fighter jets were deployed to intercept and successfully did so."

France has stationed its air force in Jordan since 2015 as part of 'Operation Chammal' to block the expansion of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria.
