Pet Product Development Boosts Related Industries
With the domestic pet population reaching the "15 million era," pet products born in Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), which was selected as a pet-friendly tourism city in 2024, are capturing the attention of the "Pet-Family" community.
The Suncheon Bio Healthcare Research Center, a public institution funded by the city, has succeeded in producing seedlings and leaves of Siberian pine, which are difficult to mass-produce, by utilizing smart farm-linked technology, and has created triple moisturizing multi-balm and triple care shampoo using Siberian pine bio-materials.
Since pets have more sensitive skin than humans, products made from natural materials have a competitive edge. The Siberian pine bio-material has an anti-inflammatory effect approximately 117.3% higher than that of Centella asiatica extract.
The Suncheon Bio Healthcare Research Center is equipped with a system for pet product development, research, and corporate support. The launched products have been registered at the lifestyle goods retailer "Artbox" and are currently being registered on the online shopping mall "About Pet."
A city official stated, "We expect that the pet products developed in Suncheon will enhance the status of Suncheon as a pet-friendly city by linking the new tourism culture with pets to the revitalization of the local economy."
Meanwhile, in March, the city was selected as a "Pet-Friendly Tourism City," a project to create a city where people can travel with their pets and enjoy accommodation, experiences, and shopping. Various programs such as experiential camping and marathons with pets, and unique dining experiences are being prepared, and efforts are being made to generate revenue and promote marketing for pet products produced locally.
