OCI Holdings announced on the 15th that over 70 employees and their families participated in guide runner and plogging volunteer activities with visually impaired individuals at the 11th Happy Store Marathon for the Underprivileged held on the 14th at Yeouido Hangang Park.
On that day, employees who participated as guide runners completed the course (5 km, 10 km) by walking or running from the Culture Yard of Yeouido Park to the turnaround point at the southern end of Banghwa Bridge and back, holding hands with visually impaired marathoners or connecting arms with specially made straps, relying on each other to finish.
Since 2009, OCI Group has been conducting guide runner volunteer activities twice a year (spring and fall) with employees and their families from all affiliates, supporting visually impaired marathoners belonging to the Korean Visually Handicapped Marathon Club (VMK·the Visually handicapped to Marathon Korea).
Senior employee Kwon Sun-yong, who completed the 5 km course with a visually impaired marathoner as a guide runner that day, said, "It was not just me helping unilaterally; my partner ran better than I did, so I think I actually received help." He added, "During the run, we kept each other company and cheered each other on, which helped us finish."
Additionally, the employees who attended that day also took part in plogging volunteer activities by collecting trash around the event site, leading social contribution efforts through environmental cleanup within their living areas.
Seo Jin-seok, CEO of OCI Holdings, stated, "Going forward, OCI Holdings will establish a sustainable ESG system centered on the holding company and operate various social contribution programs in areas such as environment, education, and culture, as well as volunteer services for local communities."
OCI Holdings also runs various social contribution programs such as the "Love 1004 Movement," where 1,004 KRW is deducted monthly from salaries as a volunteer fund, and the "OCI Forest Care" project being developed at Ichon Hangang Park to protect urban ecosystems and reduce carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, employees and families of Bukwang Pharm, which became part of OCI Group in 2022, participated in social contribution activities for the first time that day, reflecting on its significance, and plan to gradually increase social contribution programs together with OCI Holdings in the future.
