Daejeon City to Supply 381 Electric Two-Wheelers This Year... Up to 3 Million KRW Support Daejeon City will promote the electric two-wheeler distribution project in 2024. / Daejeon City

Daejeon City announced that it will support the distribution of 381 electric two-wheelers this year to ensure a clear and clean air environment.

Applications and registrations can be made at the sales offices of electric two-wheeler manufacturers and importers until the budget is exhausted. Of the 381 units, 267 are for general use, 76 for delivery, and 38 for priority use.

The city provides subsidies differentially by vehicle type, considering size, type, and performance (fuel efficiency, battery capacity, climbing ability, etc.). For light two-wheelers, the maximum subsidy is 1.4 million KRW; for small two-wheelers, 2.3 million KRW; for medium and other types, 2.7 million KRW; and for large types, up to 3 million KRW.

Eligible applicants include individuals, sole proprietors, corporations, and public institutions who have resided in Daejeon for more than 90 days as of the application date. Individuals can purchase up to one unit, sole proprietors up to two units, and corporations up to ten units.

This year, the allocation ratio for delivery vehicles has been expanded from 10% to 20% of the total distribution, with 76 units separately allocated. Additionally, unlike last year, when purchasing for delivery use, the city provides an additional 10% subsidy from city funds. For example, if the purchase amount for a general light two-wheeler was 1.4 million KRW last year, this year it will be supported with 1.54 million KRW.

Qualification requirements have also been relaxed. Previously, only those who subscribed to paid transport insurance (maintained for more than 6 months) or non-paid transport insurance (maintained for more than 3 months) were recognized as purchasing for delivery use. From this year, those who have subscribed to hourly paid transport insurance maintained for more than 6 months are also recognized as purchasing for delivery use.

Furthermore, farmers, small business owners, or vulnerable groups (persons with disabilities or those below the second-lowest income bracket) can receive an additional 20% of the national subsidy amount when applying.

Subsidy recipients are selected in order of application receipt. The subsidy is paid by Daejeon City to the electric two-wheeler manufacturers and importers, and purchasers pay the remaining amount after deducting the subsidy to the manufacturers or importers.

Jung Jae-hyung, head of the Fine Dust Response Division of Daejeon City, said, “We ask for your great interest and participation in the electric two-wheeler project, which is effective in reducing fine dust, urban noise, and greenhouse gases.”
