Medical Expense Support for Companion Animals Targeting Basic Livelihood Security Recipients, Low-Income Families, and Single-Parent Households
Up to 400,000 KRW Medical Support per Household for Essential and Optional Treatments
Realizing Accompaniment with the Vulnerable... Expanding Project Budget to Support More Vulnerable Groups
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will expand support for the "Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital" project to realize companionship with the vulnerable and transform into a pet-friendly city.
This project is operated to reduce the medical expenses burden for pets of vulnerable groups. It targets basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families raising dogs or cats within the district, providing up to 400,000 KRW per household for medical expenses.
The support covers two types of treatments for pets: essential treatments and optional treatments. Essential treatments include basic health checkups, mandatory vaccinations, and heartworm prevention medication, while optional treatments cover disease treatments discovered during essential treatments and neutering surgeries.
Pets must be registered at the time of treatment, and owners are responsible for a maximum co-payment of 10,000 KRW and any additional costs beyond the 400,000 KRW support.
Additionally, items related to simple prescriptions such as grooming and nutritional supplements are excluded from support.
Those wishing to apply for medical expense support should visit animal hospitals designated by the district, submit documents proving their status as vulnerable groups (basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, single-parent families), and then receive treatment.
In particular, the district has expanded this year's project budget to allow more vulnerable groups to benefit and has designated one additional hospital to improve accessibility to treatment.
The designated animal hospitals in the district this year are ▲ Plus Animal Medical Center (Yangpyeong 2-dong) ▲ Love Pet Animal Hospital (Yeongdeungpo-dong) ▲ Hangaram Animal Hospital (Singil 1-dong) ▲ Wooshin General Animal Hospital (Singil 4-dong) ▲ Singil On Animal Hospital (Singil 7-dong), totaling five locations. For more details, contact the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Regional Economy Division.
Also, to support happy companionship with pets, the district is currently operating a rabies vaccination project for pets. Applications are accepted from April 15 to 29, and owners only need to pay a 10,000 KRW procedure fee to receive the vaccine free of charge.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "The Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital project not only promotes animal welfare but also improves the quality of life for vulnerable groups. As the number of households raising pets increases in this era, the district will continue to support various projects to enhance the happiness of its residents."
