ESG is a term combining the first letters of Environmental, Social, and Governance, which was originally emphasized as a non-financial indicator in corporate evaluations but is now recognized as an essential value for the healthy sustainability of the Earth for future generations.

The forum featured Se-eun Kwon, CEO of Mining Eco Co., Ltd., as the presenter, with panelists including Hwa-seon Jang, co-representative of Gwangju Climate Crisis Emergency Action, Dong-kwan Kim, Secretary General of the Korea Human Rights Education Institute, Mi-ja Park, co-chair of the Buk-gu Village Network, Dal-seong Jeong, Buk-gu council member, and Seung-mi Lee, Planning Director of Buk-gu Office.

CEO Kwon proposed the need for scientific certification process implementation strategies such as measuring carbon emissions and issuing forest carbon offset certificates by presenting ESG practice cases from other districts and overseas.

Council member Jeong said, “Together with Council member Go, we are promoting the enactment of an ESG practice ordinance reflecting Buk-gu’s unique strengths and corporate culture movements,” adding, “We will consider the opinions raised at today’s forum to create an effective ordinance.”

Council member Go, who hosted the forum, stated, “To activate ESG practice, education and cooperation for future generations, as well as the will and cooperation of the district mayor, are absolutely necessary.”
