China, Illegal Cruise Ship Capsizes... 12 Tourists Dead

A tourist cruise ship operating illegally capsized in Qinhuangdao, a city near the Bohai Sea in China, resulting in the deaths of 12 travelers.

According to China's state-run Xinhua News Agency on the 14th, a ship capsized the previous day in the Qinglonghe River area of Liujiaying Township, Lulong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, causing 31 travelers on board to fall into the water.

Twenty-two people were taken to the hospital, of whom 12 died, 10 are undergoing treatment, and the remaining 9 were sent home without treatment.

Local authorities reported that 155 travelers who came by three travel agency buses from Tangshan City, Hebei Province, had finished lunch near the accident site, and among them, 31 boarded the illegally operated tourist cruise ship and were involved in the accident.

Xinhua News Agency stated that Hebei authorities formed an investigation team to determine the cause, nature, and responsibility of the accident, and the ship owner and related responsible persons were arrested by public security agencies.

Meanwhile, in Pengzhou City, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, southwestern China, the previous day, seven residents died from poisoning by septic tank gas at a pig farm owned by Li Chunjin.

Xinhua News Agency reported that local fire, health, and agricultural authorities rescued residents at the scene, but seven ultimately died, and the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
