Katie Holmes Protects Daughter from Scientology
Hollywood star Tom Cruise's daughter, Suri Cruise, is about to become an adult, and it has been revealed that Cruise has not seen his daughter for as long as 12 years. Some speculate that this is due to his religion, Scientology.
On the 14th (Korean time), American entertainment media Page Six, citing an industry insider, reported that Cruise has not seen Suri since 2012. This is because Cruise's ex-wife and Suri's mother, Katie Holmes, has been thoroughly protecting their daughter.
After divorcing Cruise in August 2012, Holmes gained custody and has been living with Suri in New York. At the time of the divorce, when asked, "Are you leaving him to protect Suri from Tom Cruise's religion, Scientology?" she admitted, "That is also one of the reasons for the divorce."
Scientology is based on the core belief that 'thetans,' aliens who came to Earth from an extraterrestrial planet 75 million years ago, are the ancestors of humanity. Followers believe that they can deny a god-like transcendental being, heal diseases and souls through science, and experience supernatural powers. It has 8 million followers in 160 countries worldwide, and in the United States, it is recognized as an official religion, granting its followers tax-exempt benefits.
Scientology generates over 1.2 trillion won annually, with the largest source of income known to be donations from wealthy celebrities, including Hollywood stars. In particular, Cruise is a 'big spender,' donating more than 1 billion won annually.
Cruise had dyslexia since childhood, but he treated it after joining the Church of Scientology, and since then, he has become an enthusiastic believer. Because Scientology strictly controls meetings between believers and non-believers, Cruise is unable to meet Suri.
Additionally, Holmes said in an interview with the media last year, "Suri was too young to be exposed to the public eye, so I had to protect my daughter." Suri herself is reluctant to disclose her private life, and it is known that her relationship with her biological father, Cruise, has become distant.
Suri will officially become a legal adult at 18 on the 18th. Accordingly, Holmes received the last child support payment of $33,333 (approximately 44.47 million won) from Cruise last month. Suri plans to attend a university in New York to study fashion.
