Jang Hye-young, Defeated and Hit by a Donation Bomb... "Donation Account Exploded"

Surge in Donations After General Election... Account Limits Exceeded
"For Politicians, the Party is Home"... Green Justice Party Appeals for Support

Jang Hye-young, a member of the Green Justice Party in the National Assembly, experienced an overflow in her donation account limit after losing in the 22nd general election. In response, Representative Jang expressed her gratitude, saying, "I will never forget the love from the citizens."

On the 10th, Representative Jang ran for the Seoul Mapo-gu Eul constituency in the general election but received 8.78% (10,839 votes), placing third behind Jeong Cheong-rae (Democratic Party) and Ham Woon-kyung (People Power Party), resulting in her defeat.

Subsequently, on the 13th, Representative Jang posted on her Facebook, "In the three days since I conceded defeat, the support and donations you sent have caused the donation account to close due to exceeding the limit."

She stated, "During these difficult times, some donated eye-opening amounts, others sent their full tax deduction limits, and some even sent 30,000 won, 20,000 won, or 9,860 won saying, 'I am a minimum wage worker, so I am giving one hour of my time.'"

She continued, "All of them spoke in unison: 'Never give up.' I will never forget the great love shown by the citizens to me, who am lacking. I will never give up on the dream of changing the world for the better through politics," expressing her gratitude.

Furthermore, Representative Jang appealed for continued support for the Green Justice Party, saying, "Even now, after exceeding the limit, inquiries about donations are coming in, so I earnestly ask once again." She added, "Please send any support you wish to give me to the Green Justice Party."

In this general election, the Green Justice Party suffered a devastating result, failing to secure even one seat in both proportional representation and constituency members, relegating it to a "non-parliamentary party" for the first time in 12 years. The party's support rate in the proportional representation vote was 2.14% (about 600,000 votes), falling short of the minimum threshold (3%) and barely surpassing the party dissolution threshold (2%).

Sim Sang-jung, the only constituency member and a four-term candidate, also lost in the Goyang-si Gap constituency of Gyeonggi Province with 18.41% (28,293 votes). After her defeat, Representative Sim announced her retirement from politics.

Representative Jang said, "A party is a place and home for politicians. Politicians can only exist if there is a party. That is true for me as well. Please add your precious support to the Green Justice Party, which is starting anew after the giant has left," urging support for the party.
