Iranian Fruit Dessert 'Ravasak'
Gaining Popularity Through Mukbang and Cooking YouTubers
Simple Recipe... "A Sensation Overseas"
Following Tanghulu, a new type of fruit dessert called 'lavashak' has recently gained popularity through social networking services (SNS).
According to the distribution industry on the 14th, lavashak, a traditional Iranian snack, is made by drying fruit peels thinly and firmly, which visually resembles dried leather or jerky. However, when tasted, its sweet and sour 'unexpected' flavor is its charm.
'Lavashak' means fruit leather in Persian. The fruits used for lavashak are mainly those that grow abundantly in Iran, such as pomegranate, plum, cherry, and apricot, which combine sweetness and sourness.

Lavashak became famous after appearing in overseas mukbang content on platforms like TikTok. Recently, popular domestic dessert and mukbang YouTubers have posted content tasting or making lavashak themselves, increasing interest in lavashak within Korea as well.
The method of making lavashak is not difficult. After selecting the main fruit ingredient, a small amount of water is added, and the mixture is either simmered down or finely blended into a paste, which is then spread thinly and dried. During this process, sugar or lemon juice can be added to adjust sweetness and acidity, and various fruits or spices can be mixed in according to preference.
The YouTube channel 'Isanghan Gwajagage' (Strange Snack Shop), which has 962,000 subscribers, uploaded a video titled "Making leather from fruit?! The trending 'lavashak' except for us" on the 5th. In the video description, the YouTuber said, "I knew lavashak was hugely popular overseas, so I watched many videos," and added, "I never thought it would taste good, but after making it, I found it not too sweet, with an attractive combination of sourness and chewiness, so I really enjoyed it." Among the viewers, a commenter who identified themselves as Iranian wrote, "Thank you for making this.
