Oh Seung-rok, Nowon District Mayor, Attends the '2nd Car-Free Street Event'

On the 13th at 11 a.m., Oh Seung-rok, the mayor of Nowon District, attended the '2nd Nowon Car-Free Street Event' held around Nowon Station.

The 'Car-Free Street Event' designates the area around Nowon Lotte Department Store, a key commercial district in Nowon, as a 'car-free street' on the day of the event, promoting the value of carbon neutrality and offering a unique daily relaxation experience. When first held last year, it attracted over 76,000 visitors.

The event was mainly composed of ▲ Carbon Neutral and Harmonious (Flower and Tree) Nowon ▲ Book Festival ▲ Unique Healing Experiences ▲ Bicycle Culture Experiences ▲ Local Free Market and Flea Market.

On the day, Mayor Oh Seung-rok declared Nowon as a carbon-neutral city and participated in the 'Carbon Neutrality Performance with Residents,' encouraging over 100 residents to practice carbon neutrality.

The Book Festival attracted children's attention with the theme of 'Dung.' A traditional outdoor play 'Dung Thunderstorm' and a children's musical were held, and the 'Nowon District One Book' to be read with residents in 2024 was announced. Various experience booths, including the mobile library 'Reading Bus,' were operated to provide residents with the joy of reading.

Additionally, unique healing experience events such as a spacing-out contest in the Healing Experience Zone, BMX bicycle stunt performances and unique bicycle experiences in the Bicycle Culture Experience Zone, and a newly introduced 'Turtle Bicycle Race' were held.

The Local Free Market featured social enterprises, small business owners, and handicraft artists introducing carbon-neutral up-cycling products, while 400 teams participated in the flea market, reflecting on the meaning of resource recycling.

The district produced and distributed the 'Event Carbon Neutral Practice Guide' and plans to gradually apply it to future district events after improvements through pre-checklists, on-site evaluations, and surveys.

Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon District, stated, “At the 'Car-Free Street Event,' people can experience a busy road emptied of cars symbolizing hectic daily life, becoming the masters of the street. We will present an alternative and future-oriented event model that fills slow but valuable rest.”
