Selection and operation of professional companies with electrical and architectural certifications and extensive experience
Focused inspections within 300m radius of main roads and schools
If issues are found, repairs, reinforcements, or demolitions to be completed by June before typhoon season
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will conduct safety inspections of outdoor advertisements to prepare for wind and flood damage from the 15th to the 30th.
Outdoor advertisements that are corroded due to aging or improperly installed can cause safety accidents during typhoons, monsoons, and heavy rains, so this initiative aims to prevent such risks.
This year, safety inspections will be conducted by selecting experienced professional companies that meet qualification requirements such as electrical and architectural certifications and facility requirements including inspection equipment.
The main inspection areas are major roads within the district such as Siheung-daero, Nambusunhwan-ro, Doksan-ro, and within a 300-meter radius of schools.
The inspection targets include ▲ signs installed on walls ▲ projecting signs ▲ rooftop signs ▲ signs installed on pillars ▲ banner posting facilities, etc. In addition, through a business agreement with the Geumcheon-gu branch of the Seoul Outdoor Advertising Association, unpermitted or unreported advertisements will also be included in the inspection targets.
Experts working in teams of two will conduct inspections using visual checks and equipment, and if any issues are found, corrective orders will be issued to complete repairs and reinforcements by the end of June.
From July to September, when typhoons are concentrated, the district plans to establish a 24-hour emergency contact system with the association, community centers, and the facility management corporation, and strengthen patrol and maintenance activities. Additionally, in October, additional inspections will be conducted to closely examine whether there are any safety issues with outdoor advertisements caused by typhoons.
From 2021 to 2023, the district conducted safety inspections on 1,157 outdoor advertisements and took measures such as repairs, reinforcements, and removals for 162 identified issues.
Last year, the district became the first autonomous district to sign an agreement with the outdoor advertising association and conduct safety inspections to ensure rapid response in case of emergencies caused by wind and flood damage.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We will do our best to prevent disasters and safety accidents caused by outdoor advertisements through thorough inspections and protect the safety and property rights of our residents.”
