Gwanak-gu Joins Tree Planting to Reduce Carbon and Fine Dust in Commemoration of the 79th Arbor Day

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) marked the 79th Arbor Day by planting trees with local residents on April 12 at Yangji District in Gwanaksan Park (San 134-13, Sillim-dong).

This event was organized to spread awareness of the importance of nature through tree planting and to strengthen the commitment to responding to the climate crisis, achieving carbon neutrality, and reducing fine dust.

This year’s tree planting site is an area where green spaces were severely damaged in the past due to buildings and the installation of obstacles. To provide a pleasant green resting area for local residents, trees with beautiful flowers and leaves were planted to allow people to experience seasonal changes around their living environment.

About 200 people, including Gwanak-gu Mayor Park Jun-hee, local residents, civic groups, and public officials, participated in the tree planting event, planting approximately 200 trees such as cherry trees and Ipap trees, aiming to create a forest ecosystem effective in carbon neutrality and fine dust reduction.

Mayor Park Jun-hee of Gwanak-gu said, “Planting trees is important, but it is even more important to nurture and protect the trees that have been planted,” adding, “I hope everyone pays attention to wildfire prevention so that the forest does not disappear due to a momentary mistake. The district promises to continue implementing policies that coexist with the environment, such as tree planting projects.”
