According to Sookmyung Women’s University on the 12th, the Mongolian Ministry of Education expressed its gratitude to Sookmyung Women’s University at the ‘Sookmyung Women’s University-Mongolian Ministry of Education Letter of Appreciation Ceremony’ held on the 2nd at the Sookmyung Women’s University Administration Building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, stating, “We sincerely thank Sookmyung Women’s University for generously donating 200 laptops.”

They added, “We are deeply impressed by Sookmyung Women’s University’s efforts to realize its global ESG plan,” and said, “The laptops will be delivered to schools in digitally underserved areas of Mongolia and will help improve students’ online learning and communication skills.”

Earlier, in September of last year, Sookmyung Women’s University partnered with Google for Education to donate 209 laptops that had been used for student rentals to the Mongolian Ministry of Education. These laptops are scheduled to be distributed to students in underserved areas of Mongolia to help bridge the digital divide.

In this process, Sookmyung Women’s University and Google for Education chose to utilize ChromeOS Flex to enable Mongolian students to use the laptops efficiently. By converting existing devices to a cloud-based operating system, battery life and device performance were improved. Sookmyung Women’s University explained that this is an eco-friendly method that does not generate separate electronic waste.

Sookmyung Women’s University stated, “The collaboration with Google for Education is gaining attention as an example of global ESG activities involving cooperation between domestic universities and companies,” and added, “Both parties plan to engage in global ESG activities based on education, such as talent donation and global leader development programs for Mongolian students in the future.”
