Screening in the Midnight Screening Category
"Result of the Unity Between Actors and Production Team"
Director Ryu Seung-wan's new film 'Veteran 2' will be featured at the Cannes International Film Festival. On the 11th (local time), the Cannes Film Festival Executive Committee announced the selection at an invitation ceremony held at the UGC Normandie Theater in Paris, France, naming it as a Midnight Screening section screening. This section carefully selects and introduces a few works that combine artistic quality and popularity among genre films such as action, fantasy, horror, noir, and thriller.
This is the first time a domestic series film has been invited to the Cannes Film Festival. 'Veteran 2' is the sequel to 'Veteran,' released in 2015, which attracted 13,414,009 viewers. It depicts the process of Veteran detective Seo Do-cheol from the violent crime investigation unit, who relentlessly pursues bad guys, chasing a serial killer. Hwang Jung-min and Jung Hae-in star in the film, directed by Ryu Seung-wan.
Director Ryu was invited to the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 2005 with 'Crying Fist' and received the International Critics' Prize. Ahead of his visit after 19 years, he said, "It is an honor to present 'Veteran 2' at the festival of filmmakers worldwide," adding, "It is the result of the strong collaboration between the actors and the production team." Hwang Jung-min will walk the Cannes red carpet for the third time, following 'The Wailing' (2016) and 'The Spy Gone North' (2018). For Jung Hae-in, this will be his first experience.
This year's Cannes Film Festival will be held from the 14th to the 25th of next month in the Cannes area of France.
