Two Types of Silk Scarves, Natural Loofah, Kitchen Soap Set, Ceramic Hand-Painted Teacup
Historical Site of Silla Buddhism's First Introduction - Youth Artists' Sensibility Applied, Tourism Revitalization Expected
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk has developed three types of tourism souvenirs themed around the Silla Buddhism First Transmission Site in collaboration with local young artists to promote tourism.
The Silla Buddhism First Transmission Site is a sacred place of Korean Buddhism where Buddhism was first introduced to Silla by the monk Ado Hwasang (我道和尙).
In July last year, Gumi City established a Tourism Product Development TF team within the Romantic Festival Division and has been striving to discover young artists and develop distinctive tourism souvenirs by utilizing the region’s historical and cultural resources.
The newly released products include ▲ two types of silk scarves (WB Studio) ▲ peach-scented kitchen soap & natural loofah set (EcoSome Korea) ▲ hand-painted ceramic teacups (With Clay), which can be used as tourism souvenirs or gifts.
The products can be purchased through each business’s website or contact information, and after review by the Tourism Souvenir Development and Promotion Committee, if selected as “Gumi City Excellent Tourism Souvenirs,” they will be sold at the souvenir shop on the first floor of Gumi Station, scheduled to open in the second half of this year.
The city plans to continuously release souvenirs that can only be purchased in Gumi to enhance tourist satisfaction, and the developed products will be systematically nurtured by designating them as excellent tourism souvenirs.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “We expect that the development of various souvenirs will contribute to revitalizing tourism in Gumi, and we will actively support the sales and promotion of souvenirs developed by local young artists, small and medium enterprises, and small business owners.”
▲ Two types of premium silk scarves
These include a bright pink scarf patterned with peaches, a symbol of Silla Buddhist culture, and a calm navy-colored scarf illustrated with Gumi City’s Buddhist cultural assets to create a trendy look. Made of 100% silk to embody the elegant and luxurious atmosphere of Silla Buddhism, the scarves offer a smooth and soft texture that adds a more sophisticated image. ▲ Peach-scented kitchen soap & natural loofah set
When Ado Hwasang built the first Silla temple in Haepyeong-myeon, Gumi, peach blossoms were in full bloom even in winter, leading to the temple being named Dorisa (桃: peach). This set includes peach-scented kitchen soap, a loofah soap holder, and a natural loofah that can be used without worrying about microplastics. Made from loofahs grown directly in Gumi, it promotes zero-waste value consumption. (Available from: EcoSome Korea, CEO Park Mi-jin)
▲ Hand-painted ceramic teacup
This hand-painted teacup captures the serene landscape of the Silla Buddhism First Transmission Site as seen from the sky. Using watercolor techniques, it realistically expresses the thousand-year history and beauty of Silla Buddhism. Designed to fit comfortably in one hand, it is suitable as a gift.
