Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk announced on the 11th that it is operating the first screen park golf course in the Gyeongbuk region at the Gimcheon Senior Welfare Center to revitalize leisure culture for local seniors.
Screen park golf is a lifestyle sport that realistically reproduces outdoor park golf indoors and is very popular among seniors in their 60s.
At the Gimcheon Senior Welfare Center, as some programs were relocated to the Senior Health Culture Center, part of the vacant space was remodeled to install a screen park golf course (3 bays), and currently, 60 seniors have been taking basic lessons since the 25th of last month.
Screen park golf is a highly popular course among seniors, with registrations closing on the day of application. Each class has 15 students, organized into a total of 4 classes. Professional instructors conduct lessons every Monday through Thursday (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), and for the safety of seniors, they must complete the basic course (8 hours) before they can use the facility autonomously in teams. Autonomous use is allowed outside of lesson hours.
Kim Chung-seop, Mayor of Gimcheon, said, “We will do our best to develop more diverse programs tailored to seniors, supporting customized senior welfare services and revitalizing senior leisure culture.”
The Gimcheon Senior Welfare Center operates a total of 28 subjects and 62 classes as part of its senior socialization education programs, including screen park golf, table tennis, and Hangung, as well as informatization education (computer, smartphone), foreign languages (Japanese, practical English), liberal arts (su-jichim, calligraphy, calligraphy art, baduk, etc.), physical activities (lifestyle yoga, large ball, billiards, etc.), and arts activities (line dance, Korean dance, samulnori, nanta, harmonica, etc.). The Senior Health Culture Center, which opened in April last year, operates a health promotion room and fitness room to meet the welfare needs of local seniors.
