Technology Agreement on Propulsion Systems with GE Aerospace
Expanding Strategic Cooperation with L3Harris for Submarine Contracts
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has stepped up its technological cooperation with global U.S. defense companies to expand its warship exports.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 11th that it recently signed a technology agreement (MOU) with global turbine company GE Aerospace at the 'Sea Air Space 2024' exhibition held in the U.S. to develop a propulsion system optimized for export warships.
Through this agreement, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will design and build warships, while GE Aerospace will supply gas turbines for warship propulsion. The two companies will also cooperate on maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for export warships and strengthen technological cooperation to expand overseas orders, including the development of the latest warships for participation in the Royal Australian Navy frigate project.
On the same day, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also signed a business agreement with the global defense company L3Harris Technologies to secure submarine projects in Canada. Through mutual cooperation with L3Harris, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to expand strategic collaboration for winning the Canadian submarine project, including local procurement, technology transfer, and offset trade.

Joo Won-ho, head of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Special Ship Business Division, said, "By securing technology optimized for export warships through technological cooperation with global defense companies, we will firmly establish our position as a leading K-warship company."
Started in 1965 and marking its 58th edition this year, the Sea Air Space exhibition is the largest maritime defense exhibition in North America. The event, held over three days from the 8th (local time) in Washington D.C., was attended by more than 16,000 key decision-makers and officials from the defense industries of 57 countries worldwide, sharing the latest technologies and information related to maritime security.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries recently invited officials from nine governments worldwide to the delivery signing ceremony of the Shin Chae-ho, commemorating the first on-time delivery of a 3,000-ton class submarine, showcasing the excellence of K-warships such as submarines, Aegis destroyers, and frigates. On the 28th of last month, it was selected as the preferred negotiation partner for local construction joint production of four warships, including frigates, from Peru. To date, it has secured orders for 18 warships overseas, actively expanding its presence in the global market.
