Weekly Operation on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Guro-gu Health Center and Gocheok 2-dong Community Center... New Sports Experience
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) has launched the 'Silver Nolsaemteo' project this month to promote the health of the elderly in anticipation of entering a super-aged society.
'Silver Nolsaemteo' means a place where play springs forth, and it is a program that recruits seniors aged 60 to 79 to provide sports-related play activities they have never experienced before.
The program is operated at the Guro-gu Public Health Center (Eul district) and Gocheok 2-dong Community Center (Gap district), where about 25 seniors gather every Tuesday and Thursday until June to experience new sports.
The events include ▲ Disc Golf, where a flying disc shaped like a frisbee is thrown into a goal ▲ Boccia, where a ball is rolled as close as possible to a target ball ▲ New Age Curling, which involves pushing stones on the ground instead of ice. Each event consists of 8 sessions. Four sessions are conducted with an instructor, and the remaining four are self-led by the seniors.
The district expects this activity to lead to healthy hobbies and further contribute to the activation of self-help groups.
A Guro-gu official stated, "We plan to continue the project in the second half of the year," adding, "We hope it will help improve the physical, social, and emotional health of the elderly."
