"Uninterrupted Mokpo Development, We Will Definitely Achieve It"
In the 22nd National Assembly election, Kim Won-i, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate who ran in the Mokpo district, was elected.
According to the Central Election Management Committee's election statistics system on the 11th, Kim successfully secured re-election by a wide margin over independent candidate Lee Yun-seok.
Out of 181,418 eligible voters in the Mokpo district, 117,775 participated in the voting. Kim Won-i of the Democratic Party of Korea received 82,700 votes (71.43%), Yoon Seon-ung of the People Power Party 6,393 votes (5.52%), Park Myung-gi of the Green Justice Party 2,677 votes (2.31%), Choi Guk-jin of the Progressive Party 3,546 votes (3.06%), Choi Dae-jip of the Pine Tree Party 4,647 votes (4.01%), and independent candidate Lee Yun-seok 15,811 votes (13.65%).
Kim Won-i, the elected candidate, said, "The public's anger toward the incompetent, ignorant, and immoral regime was reflected in the votes," adding, "I will stand at the forefront to uphold the will of the citizens of Mokpo and to judge the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
He continued, "I will ensure the uninterrupted development of Mokpo," emphasizing, "I will properly complete the projects I started, including attracting Mokpo Medical School, the major renovation of Mokpo Station, the integration of Mokpo and Sinan, and making Mokpo a hub for offshore wind power."
Kim has served as an administrative officer at the Blue House under President Kim Dae-jung, an aide to former Uri Party chairman Kim Geun-tae, deputy head of the functional division of Moon Jae-in's presidential campaign headquarters, Seoul's political deputy mayor (a vice-ministerial position), and after entering the National Assembly, as the Democratic Party's floor deputy leader.
