"The People Power Party's Defeat is a Judgment on the Midterm Evaluation of the Administration"
"A Healthy and Constructive Party-Government Relationship is Needed"
In Bundang-gap, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, Ahn Cheol-soo, who defeated candidate Lee Kwang-jae, directly criticized, saying, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration's way of governing must change through this election."
On the 11th, on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' Ahn Cheol-soo attributed the People Power Party's election defeat to "a judgment on the mid-term evaluation of the administration," adding, "It seems the votes reflected the public's dissatisfaction with what the government has done so far."
He continued, "It is crucial to reflect deeply and carry out the reforms that the people want in a proper and correct manner." He said, "Currently, we are caught up in the global semiconductor war, and under the scientific and technological hegemony competition between the U.S. and China, South Korea needs a survival strategy," adding, "National consensus and a state strategy on these matters are absolutely necessary. Then, I believe we can regain the public's support."
Ahn particularly emphasized that President Yoon Seok-yeol's governance style must change after this general election. He said, "Since the People Power Party's district lawmakers understand public sentiment accurately, I hope the party's scope of maneuver will be expanded so it can play a proper role," and added, "When the government announces policies that are distant from public sentiment, the party should be allowed to say, 'No, there is a better alternative,' and accept it. A healthy and constructive party-government relationship is absolutely necessary."
Meanwhile, on the same day on YTN's 'News King,' Ahn drew a line on questions related to the presidential election, saying, "I have no such plans at the moment." He said, "I think it is very important that Pangyo Techno Valley plays a role in sustaining our country's future." Mentioning the absence of educational institution research centers, he said, "We will attract more schools and research institutes to ensure that during the Industrial Revolution era and the U.S.-China hegemony war era, our country can play a central role in sustaining itself."
