Korea GM Launches 'OnStar' Connectivity Service

General Motors (GM) will apply its global connectivity service 'OnStar' to the 2025 Chevrolet Trax crossover for the first time in Korea.

On the 11th, GM Korea announced that starting with the 2025 Chevrolet Trax crossover, it will gradually expand the OnStar service to new vehicles launched in the domestic market under Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, and other brands. In particular, the plan is to provide industry-leading connectivity services by increasing the OnStar service features preferred by Korean consumers.

OnStar is GM's connectivity service with over 5.6 million paid subscribers worldwide. OnStar users can enjoy an enhanced digital experience through a mobile app, including remote vehicle control, vehicle status information, and vehicle diagnostics.

First, OnStar offers various remote vehicle control functions in Korea. Service users can remotely start and stop the engine via their smartphones, and control vehicle door locking/unlocking, horn, and hazard lights through the mobile app.

Additionally, users can keep their vehicles up to date anytime via the mobile app. Detailed vehicle information such as mileage, tire pressure, fluid levels, engine oil life, and fuel efficiency can be viewed at a glance. Notifications are sent to users for items requiring replacement, inspection, or repair, and support is available through GM’s nationwide service network of over 350 locations. The status of major vehicle components such as the engine, transmission, airbags, OnStar service, and emission systems can also be diagnosed anytime via the app without visiting a service center.

GM Korea has also introduced the 'Digital Activation' feature for the first time in the GM global market to simplify the subscription process. Through this, customers can easily subscribe to OnStar and use the service directly via the mobile app without assistance from a consultant. A unified account service has also been newly introduced, allowing users to access various GM brand websites and mobile apps with a single account.

Yoon Myung-ok, Head of Communications and Chief Marketing Officer at GM Korea, said, "We will strive to provide customers with a variety of automotive connectivity service experiences tailored to the domestic environment."
