Nam Candidate's Side: "There Are Ballot Boxes We Could Not Observe"
The vote counting in the Incheon Dong-gu Michuhol electoral district is being delayed due to Nam Young-hee, the Democratic Party candidate, requesting a recount.
According to the Incheon City Election Commission on the 11th, the vote counting rate in this district remained at 99.98% as of 8 a.m. that day.
This is because Nam Young-hee, the Democratic Party candidate who lost to Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party, requested a recount for some ballot boxes.
There were seven early out-of-district ballot boxes, but observers confirmed that only four of them were counted. Since all observers did not see the counting of the other three ballot boxes, they requested another count.
The vote shares of candidates Nam and Yoon were 49.55% (57,705 votes) and 50.44% (58,730 votes), respectively, showing a difference of 1,025 votes. Unless there is an unexpected result from the recount, Yoon is on the verge of securing his fifth term, the longest among current Incheon lawmakers.
Previously, Yoon narrowly won against Nam in the general election four years ago by a margin of 171 votes, recording the smallest vote difference nationwide.
Following Nam's request, the Election Commission reportedly proceeded with the recount. The police have deployed 30 officers and one riot squad around the polling stations to prepare for any possible situation.
