Clashes with President Yoon... "Judgment on the Regime"
In the 22nd National Assembly election for Jeonju-eul, Jeonbuk, the election of Lee Seong-yoon, a former Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office chief and the Democratic Party candidate who campaigned on the slogan "Judgment on the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," has been confirmed.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 11:23 PM on the day, Jeonju-eul recorded a vote counting rate of 74.25%, with Lee receiving 66.18%, or 54,835 votes.
Meanwhile, the runner-up, Jeong Un-cheon of the People Power Party, recorded 20.69%, or 17,144 votes.
Lee served as the chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office and the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office during the Moon Jae-in administration. Although he was a classmate of President Yoon at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, he is a representative "pro-Moon figure" as a junior alumnus of Kyung Hee University Law School, where former President Moon studied.
He had conflicts with President Yoon when Yoon was Prosecutor General, including over the "Han Dong-hoon recording report incident."
In his victory speech, Lee said, "Since you have supported me as a powerful member of the National Assembly, I will firmly judge Yoon Seok-yeol at the central level to assert my presence, open the future of Jeonju solely through ability, and uphold the pride of Jeonbuk. I will carry out that aspiration."
