Cycling 50km from Seongseong Lake Park to Bukmyeon Using Bicycle Road
Cheonan City Launches Bicycle Trail Project in 2022
Cheonan City in Chungnam is carrying out the ‘Bicycle Trail’ project, and as some sections are gradually completed, it is emerging as a new tourist attraction.
On the 5th, Mayor Park Sang-don of Cheonan personally rode a bicycle with staff for 50 km to the site of the ‘Bukmyeon Wirye Cherry Blossom Festival’ and actively promoted the newly opened bicycle trail.
The section Mayor Park rode covers about 50 km from Seongseong Lake Park to the festival site in Yongam-ri, Bukmyeon, using the ‘Seonghwancheon Silver Grass Trail, Ipjangcheon Grape Trail, Busomunigil, and Bukmyeon Cherry Blossom Trail.’
This section can be easily accessed by starting from Seongseong Lake Park along the Seonghwancheon Silver Grass Trail and following the blue bicycle guidance signs.
Following the Ipjangcheon Grape Trail sign at the Pyeongtaek boundary leads along the river to Ipjang Reservoir. To reach Bukmyeon, one must cross Busomun Pass at an altitude of 300m, which is a challenging section for beginners but worth attempting. Especially, the final course in Bukmyeon is a new tourist spot where visitors can take memorable photos with cherry blossoms and bicycles during the cherry blossom blooming season.
Meanwhile, the ‘Cheonan Bicycle Trail Project’ has been underway since 2022. In October of that year, the first section, the 15.5 km ‘Seonghwancheon Silver Grass Trail’ bicycle road, was created from Seongseong Lake Park to Anseongcheon Bicycle Road.
Last year, the Ipjangcheon Grape Trail (15 km) ~ Busomunigil (10.9 km) ~ Bukmyeon Cherry Blossom Trail (10.3 km) bicycle roads were maintained, completing the current bicycle trail.
A Cheonan city official said, “In addition to the bicycle paths created so far, we are also promoting the national cross-country bicycle path extending from Byeongcheon-myeon to Susin-myeon to Seongnam-myeon, as well as bicycle paths connecting Sinbang-dong, Pungse, and Gwangdeok. We will continue to make efforts to make Cheonan a city good for cycling.”
