With one day remaining until the main voting day of the 22nd National Assembly election, tensions among candidates in Seo-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City are escalating.

The campaign office of Yang Bu-nam, the Democratic Party candidate, announced on the 9th that they have filed a complaint accusing Green Justice Party candidate Kang Eun-mi of misleading the facts and inciting public opinion, citing false information disclosure under the Public Official Election Act.

Earlier, Candidate Kang released a statement claiming she received a report that Candidate Yang conducted door-to-door campaign visits in the Seochang-dong area the previous day.

Kang said, "Door-to-door campaign visits are strictly restricted under Article 106 of the Public Official Election Act," adding, "Violations can result in imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 6 million won, and may lead to disqualification from holding office, making it a serious crime."

She continued, "The Election Commission must investigate the illegal campaign activities of Candidate Yang and immediately file a complaint," and stated, "He is unqualified to be a member of the National Assembly who should represent the will of the people and make laws."

She further urged, "Candidate Yang Bu-nam should resign his candidacy even now. I appeal to the citizens of Gwangju. Please judge through your vote."

In response, Candidate Yang’s camp said, "Issuing a statement and urging the Election Commission to file a complaint without verifying the exact facts is a malicious act that affects voters' proper judgment," and filed a complaint accusing Kang of false information disclosure under the Public Official Election Act for sending such a ‘statement’ containing false information via email to local reporters and others.

A representative of Yang’s campaign office emphasized, "Strict measures were unavoidable to establish a clean election order, so we filed an additional complaint," and added, "The Election Commission should also accurately investigate whether Candidate Yang conducted illegal door-to-door visits and then file a complaint against Candidate Kang for false information disclosure."
