Special Measures Implemented to Prepare for Large Wildfires on Election Day
On the 9th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a meeting with related agencies at the City Hall Disaster and Safety Headquarters to discuss measures to prevent forest fires and minimize damage through rapid response in case of incidents, as the risk of forest fires increases with the arrival of spring.
The meeting, chaired by Jo Myeong-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, was attended by related departments, police stations, fire stations, military units, and the Forest Cooperative?agencies that need to collaborate in the event of a forest fire.
They discussed strengthening forest fire response measures, including prevention, firefighting command systems, and resident evacuation plans.
In particular, they analyzed past cases where large-scale forest fires frequently occurred nationwide on election days and decided to fully respond by expanding the operation of the forest fire countermeasures headquarters on election days and swiftly mobilizing firefighting resources to fundamentally prevent large-scale forest fires.
Deputy Mayor Jo stated, “Illegal burning near forest areas during spring is a major cause leading to forest fires,” and urged, “During the special forest fire countermeasure period, please make every effort to prevent and respond to forest fires through active guidance and crackdowns on illegal burning near forest areas, as well as cooperation among related agencies.”
