Mokpo Coast Guard Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Crimes Including Illegal Cultivation of Daema and Yanggwibi

Intensive Crackdown Conducted to Create a Drug-Free Marine Environment

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) is conducting a focused crackdown on illegal activities such as the illicit cultivation of hemp and poppy from July 1 to July 31, in response to the blooming period of poppies and the harvesting season of hemp.


According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 9th, alongside this, from July 1 to November 30, they will also simultaneously crack down on the smuggling of narcotics through sea routes such as international passenger ships and foreign vessels, as well as the distribution and use of narcotics by both domestic and foreign maritime workers to prevent the spread of drugs.

The Maritime Police plan to completely block the supply of narcotics by strongly cracking down on illegal activities such as △illegal cultivation △use △manufacturing and trafficking of hemp and poppy in concealed places like vinyl greenhouses and vegetable gardens in fishing villages and island areas. Additionally, they will use patrol vessels to inspect whether ship crew members are using narcotics at sea.


A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “We will take the lead in eradicating illegal activities and creating a safe maritime environment through focused crackdowns on illicit cultivation of hemp and poppy and narcotics-related criminals.”


Meanwhile, the Maritime Police are raising awareness by promoting the dangers of narcotics and the focused crackdown plan on illegal cultivation offenders through banners, electronic display boards, and social networking services (SNS).
