Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that the 'Agenda Discovery Group,' which serves as a partner in creating a women-friendly city and a channel for public-private communication, will actively carry out activities again this year.
The 'Dong-gu Women-Friendly City Agenda Discovery Group' acts as the main agent in creating a women-friendly city by ▲discovering projects and proposing policies for women-friendly city creation ▲monitoring inconveniences in daily life ▲promoting women-friendly initiatives and gathering opinions, serving as a bridge for public-private cooperation.
The Agenda Discovery Group is leading efforts to create a safe alley environment through its first project of the year, 'Women’s Safe Return Path Monitoring.' Due to the continuous increase in crimes targeting women, seven locations within the district, mainly in areas densely populated with multi-family housing such as one-room apartments, have been selected based on analysis of the top five regional crimes and 112 emergency calls.
On the first day of monitoring, the Agenda Discovery Group conducted detailed on-site investigations focusing on areas with high crime rates, checking streetlight illumination, the operation of CCTV and emergency bells, among other factors. Dong-gu plans to actively improve the inconveniences and safety concerns identified through the group’s monitoring activities by coordinating with relevant district office departments, the police station, and the fire station.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, stated, "The role of the Agenda Discovery Group is crucial for the complete establishment and growth of a women-friendly city," and added, "I ask that you continue to discover and implement various policies that create a safe environment for socially vulnerable groups and make all residents, not just women, happy."
Meanwhile, the 'Dong-gu Women-Friendly City Agenda Discovery Group' played a pivotal role in Dong-gu being designated as a Stage 3 women-friendly city by proposing policies and conducting promotional activities. The currently active 6th Agenda Discovery Group consists of 45 members who focus on gathering residents’ needs and discovering life-centered gender equality agendas through diverse education, regular meetings, and monitoring activities.
