Jeonnam Fire Department received an average of 1,295 emergency 119 calls per day during the first quarter of this year.
On the 9th, the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters analyzed the status of 119 call receipts for the first quarter of 2024, revealing a total of 117,853 calls. This represents a 7.9% (10,055 calls) decrease compared to the previous year.
Fire-related calls decreased by 35% compared to 9,503 calls last year, emergency medical calls decreased by 2.4% compared to 31,478 calls last year, and various inquiry calls such as hospital and pharmacy information also decreased by 6.4% compared to the previous year.
However, rescue calls increased by 6.3% compared to 6,542 calls last year, which is analyzed as a seasonal effect due to the increase in spring outings such as mountain hiking.
Among the calls in the first quarter, fire-related calls decreased the most, which is attributed to the effectiveness of safety measures implemented for fire-vulnerable facilities such as industrial sites and residential buildings.
In particular, the amount of precipitation in the province during the first quarter doubled compared to the previous year, and due to surveillance activities prohibiting the burning of rice paddies and field ridges, forest fires sharply decreased by 58% compared to last year.
However, vehicle fires increased by 13 cases (23%) compared to 57 cases in the same period last year, so it is recommended to have vehicles inspected when driving for extended periods during spring outings.
Kim Ok-yeon, head of the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room, said, “We will do our best to protect the lives and property of residents by utilizing statistical data,” and added, “If it is difficult to make a phone call during a disaster situation, please note that you can report 119 by text message or photos.”
