Started in 1964, the ‘Library Week’ event is a nationwide campaign organized by the Korean Library Association to promote the value and necessity of libraries and encourage reading habits among the entire population.
According to the revised ‘Library Act’ last year, April 12, the first day of Library Week, was designated as ‘Library Day,’ and various events centered around books are held.
The 10 libraries under the Busan Office of Education have prepared 36 special lectures, 5 performances, 96 experiential events, 57 exhibitions, and 22 discussions as part of the ‘Library Week’ event.
The Citizen Library will operate a special lecture titled ‘Painters’ Canvas, Meeting Magazines,’ which tells the story of modern and contemporary Korean art history through magazines on the 20th, while the Central Library will hold an exhibition throughout April called ‘K Literature Recognized Abroad within K Culture,’ showcasing foreign literary award-winning works by domestic authors.
Gupo Library will host a lecture by Professor Yoon Ki-heon of Busan National University on the 18th, targeting out-of-school youth and covering animation linked to webtoons, and Haeundae Library will offer a unique lending service called ‘BOOK Picnic,’ lending picnic sets so visitors can enjoy reading in nearby forests and parks until the 18th.
