Naver Webtoon and Munpia announced on the 9th that they will hold the "2024 Largest Web Novel Contest" with a total prize of 390 million KRW.
This contest will accept web novels in various genres including ▲Fantasy ▲Martial Arts ▲Modern ▲Sports ▲Alternate History. Submissions will be accepted for 40 days from May 8 to June 16, followed by judging, and the winners will be announced on July 17.
Notably, this year’s number of winning works is 44, the highest ever among contests previously held by Naver Webtoon and Munpia. The winning works will be exclusively serialized first on Munpia, then distributed through Naver Series, with promotional support benefits provided by both Munpia and Naver Series. Additionally, the Grand Prize and Excellence Award winners will have the privilege of their works being adapted into webtoons and officially serialized on Naver Webtoon.
Naver Webtoon and Munpia have discovered various popular works through simultaneous serialization, such as "Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint" (by Sing Shong), "Nano Machine" (by Han Jung Wol Ya), and "The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate" (by San Kyung). The joint web novel contest has been held since 2022, and works that win the contest are more easily accessible to readers through serialization on Munpia and Naver Series. It also provides various revenue opportunities, expanding debut chances for both established and new authors while contributing to the expansion of the web novel market.
Naver Webtoon and Munpia plan to further expand opportunities for creators in the webtoon and web novel industries to debut through more channels. Previously, Naver Webtoon also launched the "Direct Serialization Train," a super-short-term new webtoon discovery system where results can be received within two weeks of submission.
Son Je-ho, CEO of Munpia, said, "We will strive to be a debut platform so that aspiring creators can present their works to more readers." Park Je-yeon, General Leader of Naver Web Novel, said, "We hope any aspiring writer who wants to showcase their unique story to a wider world will take on the challenge."
