The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute has begun testing health functional foods in preparation for the season with high gift demand.
The institute announced on the 9th that it will inspect health functional foods currently in distribution for compliance with standards and specifications ahead of Family Month in May.
For this inspection, the City Hall Food and Drug Safety Division and district and county public health departments will collect health functional foods distributed in local department stores, large supermarkets, and wholesale markets by the 19th, and the Health and Environment Research Institute plans to complete the testing by April to ensure the safety of health functional foods intended as gifts.
The inspection targets include products with high consumer preference and sales volume such as Red Ginseng, Probiotics, and oils containing EPA and DHA.
The inspection items cover nutritional content, compliance of functional ingredient amounts, and contamination indicators such as coliform bacteria.
Last year, 146 cases including Vitamin C, Red Ginseng, Probiotics, Milk Thistle extract, and Coenzyme Q10 were tested, and all products were found to meet the standards and specifications.
A representative from the Health and Environment Research Institute stated, “We will do our best to conduct inspections quickly and accurately to ensure that safe health functional foods are distributed.”
