Seongbuk-gu River Filled with the Scent of Flowers

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is in full swing preparing for spring along its various streams.

The district has completed planting spring flowers around Seongbukcheon, Jeongneungcheon, and Jungnangcheon and has tidied up the surrounding environment to create fragrant streams filled with blossoms.

Seongbukcheon, an urban stream that passes through Seongbuk-dong, Samseon-dong, Anam-dong, and Bomun-dong before meeting Cheonggyecheon, is famous as a "cherry blossom hotspot" visited by many residents and people from other areas, with the king cherry trees planted along the stream creating a spectacular view. The district has additionally planted spring flowers such as daffodils, poppies, and anemones along the Seongbukcheon walking trail to offer visitors a variety of sights and to invigorate the residents.

Jeongneungcheon’s lower stream area (from Wolgok Station to Jongam Bridge) has also been transformed into a colorful and beautiful walking path by planting various spring flowers. Residents, who had felt disappointed by the gray and desolate atmosphere under the overpass, are very pleased with the flower-lined walking path.

The Seongbuk section of Jungnangcheon has been sown with cornflowers and poppies, and around Seokgye Station near Uicheon, a hydrangea garden has been created. This will make the streams a place that displays different appearances and charms according to the seasons, providing healing and rest to residents in their daily lives, not only in the upcoming summer but throughout the year.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “We are making various efforts to plant plants that showcase different charms each season by utilizing Seongbuk-gu’s attractive terrain embraced by urban streams, so that residents can enjoy healing and rest in their daily lives.”
