A public official from a basic local government who possessed child and adolescent sexual exploitation videos has been handed over to the prosecution and is awaiting trial.
According to Jeollanam-do and Jangheung-gun on the 8th, Mr. A, a public official in his early 30s working in Jangheung-gun, was sent to the prosecution on charges of violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse.
Mr. A is suspected of illegally downloading and possessing obscene videos, including child and adolescent sexual exploitation materials.
After receiving notification of the investigation last year, Jangheung-gun conducted an internal audit and found some possible charges, then requested a disciplinary committee from Jeollanam-do in March. Subsequently, on the 4th, a disciplinary committee was held by Jeollanam-do, and the result was decided as 'deferred' due to the principle of presumption of innocence and the fact that the trial has not yet concluded.
Additionally, Mr. A took a leave of absence last month citing a mental illness he is suffering from.
Jeollanam-do and Jangheung-gun plan to review disciplinary actions against Mr. A depending on the sentencing outcome.
The first trial for Mr. A is scheduled to be held at 2:10 PM on the 30th at the Gwangju District Court Jangheung Branch.
