ACC, established in 1949, is the largest cardiology-related academic society. Through its annual event, it shares the latest research achievements in the related field. It is regarded as a venue where cardiology researchers worldwide, as well as global medical AI companies including Coreline Soft, showcase their technological capabilities.
At ACC 2024, Coreline Soft conducted product demos and consultations focused on AVIEW CAC at its exclusive booth. AVIEW CAC is a solution that, when inputting cardiac or chest CT images taken via computed tomography (CT), uses AI trained on a large amount of cardiac data based on deep learning to identify the locations of the coronary arteries, automatically classify and quantify coronary artery calcification in four coronary arteries, and provide the risk level of coronary artery disease based on the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).
Coronary artery calcification is a phenomenon where atherosclerosis occurs in the coronary arteries supplying blood to the heart muscle, causing calcium deposits to harden inside the arteries. Since this calcification occurs solely due to atherosclerosis, the calcification score directly correlates with the level of atherosclerosis. The absence of calcification means no atherosclerosis, but even a small amount indicates its presence, and a calcification score exceeding 100 classifies the patient as high risk. AVIEW CAC automatically classifies and calculates this analysis to assist diagnosis.
In particular, AVIEW CAC has obtained 501(k) approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its function to quantitatively evaluate coronary artery calcification not only in cardiac CT but also in chest CT scans used for diagnosing pulmonary diseases, thereby simplifying the diagnostic process and enhancing diagnostic effectiveness. The company explained, "The function to automatically obtain quantitative values of coronary artery calcification from chest CT scans taken for general trauma or suspected pulmonary disease, rather than heart disease, provides opportunities to detect coronary artery calcification and prescribe medications to inhibit its progression or conduct confirmatory tests," adding, "This can improve clinical outcomes."
At the exhibition booth, demonstrations of AVIEW Aiolta, cardiovascular imaging detection and diagnostic assistance software, were also conducted. Aiolta is a solution that assists in the rapid and accurate diagnosis of aortic dissection, which has a high fatality rate, using AI. It was designated as an innovative medical device by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety earlier this year and is expected to receive insurance (temporary) reimbursement following subsequent procedures. Other exhibited products included AVIEW PE, a pulmonary embolism diagnostic assistance solution, and AVIEW HeartX, a deep learning-based chest X-ray cardiovascular disease diagnostic solution.
Jaeheon Lee, head of Coreline Soft’s North American branch, said, “At ACC 2024, we conducted consultations focusing on the usefulness of our products in hospital settings for major global companies and researchers,” adding, “We will strengthen local sales and marketing by emphasizing the ease of use and workflow competitiveness of cardiovascular-related product lines such as AVIEW CAC, centered on our North American branch.”
