People Power Party candidates in the Gwangju region appealed, saying, "Give us the opportunity to work for a great transformation in Gwangju's development."
Eight Gwangju candidates held a joint rally at the 5·18 Democracy Square on the afternoon of the 8th, stating, "Now Gwangju must move toward a new future," and "Please give People Power Party candidates the chance to work."
They continued, "The citizens of Gwangju believe there must be a party to check the Democratic Party, which has monopolized Gwangju for 40 years," emphasizing, "For Gwangju to develop, at least one People Power Party member must be sent to the National Assembly, and if that happens, it will be innovation, change, and a true example of democracy embodying the spirit of national unity."
They also said, "If even one seat is given to the People Power Party in Gwangju, the future of Gwangju will change," urging, "We ask the citizens to open their hearts and vote for Gwangju’s interests and future."
Furthermore, they stated, "There is no division between ruling and opposition parties, conservatives and progressives when it comes to Gwangju’s development," adding, "If one People Power Party member is elected, Gwangju’s pressing projects will be promoted with momentum, and we will break through the bottlenecks in securing national budget allocations and boldly advance Gwangju’s development."
They criticized, "What has the Democratic Party, which monopolized power for 40 years, done so far? What have they achieved?" and insisted, "The most important task for Gwangju’s future is to nurture ‘people’ and ‘talent.’"
They concluded, "The People Power Party will become Gwangju’s strength, revive livelihoods, and achieve checks and balances to open a new era for Gwangju," adding, "Show that Gwangju is awake and the pride of Gwangju citizens with your precious vote on April 10."
