Jinju City Selected for Ministry of Environment's 'Commercial Vehicle Liquid Hydrogen Refueling Station Construction' Project Competition

70 Billion KRW National Funds and 80 Billion KRW Private Capital Investment

Hydrogen Charging Station Planned at Jiphyeon-myeon City Bus Public Garage Site

Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 8th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Environment's 2024 public project to establish a liquefied hydrogen refueling station for commercial vehicles.

This public project involves an investment of 15 billion KRW in total, including 7 billion KRW of national funds and 8 billion KRW of private capital, to build a "liquefied hydrogen refueling station for commercial vehicles" at the Jiphyeon-myeon city bus public garage by December 2025.

Since last year, Jinju City has been negotiating with private operators such as SK E&S and Hyosung Hydrogen, who specialize in building hydrogen refueling stations for commercial vehicles, to establish a liquefied hydrogen refueling station at the Jiphyeon-myeon city bus public garage. In February this year, investment negotiations with Hyosung Hydrogen were completed, leading to the successful application and selection for the public project.

Hyosung Hydrogen, a subsidiary of the Hyosung Group, is a specialized company that produces and sells liquefied hydrogen and builds hydrogen refueling stations. The liquefied hydrogen refueling station selected for this project will have a refueling capacity of 200 kg per hour, enabling refueling of 50 hydrogen passenger cars and 16 hydrogen buses per hour.

This is expected to play a significant role in the future expansion of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles such as hydrogen buses and hydrogen-powered water trucks in the city.

Since establishing the first hydrogen refueling station in western Gyeongnam in Panmun-dong in 2021, the city plans to complete a commercial vehicle hydrogen refueling station at the Hotan-dong freight truck public garage by June this year, and a hydrogen refueling station at Munsan Rest Area by December.

Accordingly, the city has laid the groundwork to reduce inconvenience and improve convenience for hydrogen vehicle users while expanding the supply of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles.

Meanwhile, the city began distributing hydrogen passenger cars in 2021 and has supplied 211 units to date. This year, it plans to distribute 70 hydrogen passenger cars and is currently accepting applications, providing support of 33.1 million KRW per hydrogen passenger car.

A city official stated, "Hydrogen vehicles, which use clean energy hydrogen as fuel instead of carbon energy sources that emit greenhouse gases, are expected to reduce fine dust and greatly contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050," and asked citizens to show great interest in hydrogen vehicles.
