Why Songpa-gu Focused More on 'Children's Safety'? Marine Safety Experience

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the ‘Songpa Safety Experience Festival’ on April 16 to commemorate the 10th National Safety Day, emphasizing the importance of safety and providing children with various safety experience opportunities.

Every year on National Safety Day, the district holds a safety festival at the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center. In particular, Songpa-gu, which has the highest number of births among Seoul’s autonomous districts, is making special efforts in children’s safety education.

This year’s ‘Songpa Safety Experience Festival,’ marking the 10th anniversary of National Safety Day, is planned to enhance children’s safety awareness through ▲ safety experience programs and ▲ safety musicals.

This year, 20 organizations including Songpa Police Station, Songpa Fire Station, National Environmental Education Center, Korean Red Cross, Korea Product Safety Management Institute, Korea Elevator Safety Agency, Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, and Jeju Air are participating.

First, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 16th, the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center will operate a total of 30 safety experience programs aimed at preventing safety accidents among children.

Programs include riding in a police car, elevator escape experience, marine transportation safety using VR, and aircraft emergency slide experience, guiding children to protect themselves quickly and accurately in case of emergencies. Additionally, popular craft programs such as making transparent umbrellas for visibility, mosquito repellent, and electric car paper folding are prepared for children.

From 2:30 p.m. on the 16th, at the Isori Hall in the Songpa Children’s Culture Center, a children’s safety musical titled ‘The Accident-Prone Dragon King’s Underwater Safety Experience!’ will provide fun safety education tailored to children’s perspectives.

All programs of the ‘Songpa Safety Experience Festival’ are free and require advance reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations for safety experience programs can be made by phone to the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center, and for the children’s safety musical, by calling the Urban Safety Division of Songpa-gu Office.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Safety awareness is formed from a young age, so children’s safety education is most important for establishing a safety culture in the community. This safety festival has prepared various experiences so that children can directly experience and learn how to respond to emergencies, and we hope for active participation.”

Why Songpa-gu Focused More on 'Children's Safety'? Making an Umbrella

Meanwhile, the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center was opened in 2001 to commemorate the Hwaseong Sealand fire accident that occurred in 1999 and to raise awareness of the importance of preventing safety accidents. Located in Cheonma Neighborhood Park, Macheon-dong, it is a four-story building with a total floor area of 5,516.35㎡, providing safety education to respond to disasters and contributing to the spread of safety culture.
