Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, No Known Cause
Symptoms Include Impaired Concentration and Memory Disorders

Girl group Lapillus member Shanti (21) has been diagnosed with 'chronic fatigue syndrome' and will indefinitely suspend her group activities. Chronic fatigue syndrome is a condition characterized by extreme fatigue that persists throughout waking hours, which can severely impact daily life.

On the 5th, Lapillus's agency MLD Entertainment stated, "Shanti has been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and is currently undergoing treatment with her health improving," but added, "Due to concerns that intense group music activities might trigger a relapse and harm her health, her participation in group activities as a singer will be indefinitely postponed."

They continued, "Shanti will remain a member of Lapillus and continue her individual activities." Shanti, born in 2002 with Filipino and Argentine nationality, debuted as a member of Lapillus in 2022.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a condition where fatigue does not improve regardless of rest. It is reported to be so severe that it significantly affects daily life. It can occur at any age, including children, but is most commonly diagnosed in people between their 20s and 50s.

As a serious illness, it differs from ordinary fatigue. Symptoms include ▲short-term memory impairment and reduced concentration ▲sore throat ▲enlarged and painful lymph nodes in the neck or armpits ▲muscle pain ▲joint pain ▲new types of headaches different from usual ▲feeling unrefreshed despite adequate sleep ▲and severe fatigue lasting more than 24 hours after exercise, unlike usual.

The exact cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is unknown. Generally, fatigue can result from medication, stress or depression, and lack of sleep, but chronic fatigue syndrome is distinguished from these types of fatigue. However, the medical community estimates that multiple triggering factors may interact to develop chronic fatigue syndrome. Potential causes also include viral infections, immunological abnormalities, neurohormonal imbalances, central nervous system disorders, and psychological factors.
