"Visual Looks Like Dog Food"... Heated Argument After Serving Kim Mari with Gopchang Bokkeum

Outrage Over Free Fried Food Not on the Menu
Netizens Divided on the Incident

A story has emerged about a customer and a restaurant owner engaging in a heated argument after the customer left a delivery app review saying the unwanted complimentary food "looks like dog food." On the 1st, a post titled "Am I a difficult customer?" was uploaded to an online community. The author, Mr. A, ordered a menu consisting only of al gopchang and vegetable gopchang from a gopchang specialty restaurant. However, the delivered food included fried dumplings and gim-mari, which were not even on the restaurant’s menu.

Seeing this, Mr. A left a two-star review saying, "The visual looks like dog food. I ordered because the ratings were good, but I was immediately disappointed upon opening it. Did you give the fried items as a complimentary service? I don’t understand why you included them with the gopchang. They’re not even foods that go well together, and I haven’t seen anyone else mention receiving fried items as a service in reviews. I understand the intention to give something extra, but I think this is a rather insincere service."

The owner, after reading the review, responded, "What do you mean by dog food, customer? Your words are too harsh. If you don’t like the complimentary items, you could have just said so. No matter which restaurant’s food you eat, you shouldn’t say things like this." He added, "If you treat the food we carefully prepared like dog food, please never order from our restaurant again. Next time, come to the store and talk to me face to face. I will refund you anytime."

Mr. A replied, "Were you upset because I said dog food? I admit I was harsh, but I think your response was also inappropriate. Shouldn’t you explain why you put fried items in the gopchang? Including food not on the menu as a complimentary item was a mistake." He also contacted the delivery app company. In response to Mr. A’s inquiry, the owner told the delivery app, "It is correct that fried items are given as a complimentary service to all customers. This is confirmed directly at the store, and we cannot provide photos."

Later, the owner reported Mr. A’s review, saying, "Treating the food we prepared with care like dog food kills our motivation to run the business. Giving extra food out of goodwill and having it treated like dog food is unacceptable as a human being." Feeling frustrated, Mr. A said, "I feel like I’m being labeled as a star-rating terrorist and a difficult customer. I’m very curious why those fried items were included, and if this was a prank with food, shouldn’t there be some punishment?"

Netizens who read the story responded with various opinions such as, "I can understand both sides," "I get both the customer and the owner, but did the customer really have to use the term dog food in a review that everyone sees?" "It definitely isn’t a combination that goes well together," and "It’s hard to say which side is the difficult one here."
