“President Yoon Suk-yeol, Do Not Sow Discord Among Jeonnam Residents”

On the morning of the 5th, Lee Yun-seok, candidate for Mokpo City National Assembly, along with citizens from Mokpo and the western region, held a press conference in front of the Jeonnam Provincial Office demanding the withdrawal of the Jeonnam medical school public recruitment plan and the simultaneous resignation of Governor Kim Young-rok and Mokpo City’s incumbent lawmaker Kim Won-i.

In the statement, candidate Lee Yun-seok said, “The announcement of Jeonnam Province’s medical school public recruitment plan is truly shocking,” and pointed out, “President Yoon Seok-yeol’s remark to select and apply for the medical school establishment site has been criticized as a reckless statement that sows discord and stirs conflict between the western and eastern regions of Jeonnam.”

He questioned, “Why does Governor Kim Young-rok pour fuel on the fire of regional conflict by announcing the medical school public recruitment plan in response? What is the reason for rushing like this? Are the votes from the eastern region already that desperate?”

He continued, “Governor Kim Young-rok should withdraw the public recruitment plan and resign immediately. The issue of attracting a medical school should be reconsidered after gathering public opinion by region and through consultation.”

He also stated, “Lawmaker Kim Won-i, who showed such helpless and incompetent behavior until this incident occurred, should apologize deeply to the citizens of Mokpo and resign from the National Assembly,” and questioned, “What exactly has he done over the past four years to cause today’s situation?”

In particular, he demanded, “Does holding a head-shaving show in Seoul bring a medical school or a hospital? Lawmaker Kim Won-i should acknowledge his incompetence and resign from both his lawmaker position and candidacy.”

Candidate Lee Yun-seok, together with the participants, reaffirmed the demands, saying, “Governor Kim Young-rok should withdraw the Jeonnam medical school public recruitment plan and resign immediately,” and “Lawmaker Kim Won-i should deeply apologize to the citizens of Mokpo and resign immediately,” concluding the statement.

Meanwhile, Lee Yun-seok, candidate for Mokpo City National Assembly, is a political science Ph.D. who served as a two-term National Assembly member from Sinan and Muan and as a university president, and also served as the head of the Democratic Party’s central organization headquarters.

In this general election, he ran as an independent candidate in the Mokpo electoral district, advocating for the ‘Mokpo Metropolitan Era’ through the integration of Mokpo, Sinan, and Muan, and after winning, he is determined to return to the Democratic Party to judge the prosecutorial dictatorship regime and to reclaim power in the next presidential election.
