Theft of Cheese Worth 36,000 Won Delivered in Front of Store
"I Wonder What They Needed It For"
A self-employed person’s story about having cheese worth 36,000 won stolen from a delivery in front of their store has come to light.
On the 4th, a post titled "Cheese was stolen" was uploaded to an online community. The author, Mr. A, who has been self-employed for one year, said, "After closing the business, ingredients for the next day are delivered," and added, "When I arrived at the store in the morning, the inner film of the packaging container was out, so I thought someone had opened it."
Mr. A immediately checked the closed-circuit television (CCTV) and caught a man rummaging through the ingredients. In the footage, a man walking down the street stops when he sees the food delivery, then tears open the packaging and searches through it. Mr. A said, "The missing item was cheese worth about 36,000 won," and added, "I wondered if the man took the three 500g packs of cheese for some use. Since it was only about 36,000 won, I thought about just leaving it, but I reported it to the police fearing this might happen again." He continued, "I don’t know if I can get compensation if the culprit is caught. I think both are unlikely, but I will manage incoming deliveries more carefully from now on."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "Even if compensation is not received, they should be tracked down and punished to the end," "I don’t understand why someone would take what belongs to others," "If they thought it was trash, they wouldn’t have torn the packaging so much," and "It’s scary that strange people like this are increasing these days."
Meanwhile, in 2022, a video of a man stealing a delivery item also became a hot topic. The victim, Mr. B, said, "A speaker delivered in front of my store was stolen," and added, "A man loitering at a bus stop early in the morning stole the delivery. Even after checking the invoice, he took the package as if it was his own and disappeared." According to Article 329 (Theft) of the Criminal Act, a person who steals another’s property may be punished by imprisonment for up to six years or a fine of up to 10 million won.
