Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) opened the 'Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center' located between the Jungnangcheon Riverside 2nd Sports Park and under Jang-an Bridge on the 29th of last month.
Established in 2013, the Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center is celebrating its 12th year this year. This year, 3,032 households applied for garden plot rentals, and through a random computerized lottery with a competition rate of 3:1, 927 households were selected.
At the opening ceremony, participating residents received vegetable seedlings and planted them themselves following the guidance of an urban agriculture expert instructor. They also received a textbook on urban gardening containing valuable information for the year's farming.
The district office plans to provide soil safety inspections and agricultural product pesticide residue test information so that participating residents can enjoy healthy leisure activities through urban agriculture. Additionally, to provide high-quality soil before planting autumn crops, support such as plowing will be offered.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, who attended the opening ceremony, stated, "I hope the Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center becomes a space for communication and healing among families and neighbors," and added, "We will continue to actively strive to provide various leisure activity opportunities for residents."
