On the 4th, LG announced that it held the 'LG Tech Conference 2024' at LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, inviting about 300 domestic master's and doctoral R&D talents in science and engineering fields.
The 'LG Tech Conference' has been held since 2012 to attract outstanding domestic R&D talents in future industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), bio, cleantech, mobility, and new materials. This year, top executives including chief technology officers (CTOs) of affiliates directly informed attendees about LG’s technological innovation and vision. Under the theme of 'connection,' a 'technology exchange' program emphasizing communication with talents was introduced for the first time.
The event was attended by Vice Chairman Kwon Bong-seok, who leads the LG Technology Council, Park Il-pyeong, CEO of LG Science Park, and CTOs, chief digital officers (CDOs), and chief human resources officers (CHOs) from major LG affiliates such as LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, LG Uplus, and LG AI Research Institute. Vice Chairman Kwon said, "LG has grown over 77 years by valuing customers, technology, and talent, showcasing numerous groundbreaking technologies that amazed the world." He added, "We will innovate customer experiences based on technology to create a better world." He further expressed hope that "this event will be a starting point for sharing research and technology, communicating, and finding the future self."
CTOs from major affiliates took the stage as speakers to attract talent in their respective fields.
Executive Director Bae Kyung-hoon of LG AI Research Institute presented on AI, Vice President Lee Sam-su, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and CDO of LG Electronics, spoke on big data, and Executive Director Park In-seong, Head of LG Electronics Software Center, covered software. President Jung Dae-hwa of LG Electronics Production Technology Institute spoke on smart factories, Vice President Lee Jong-gu, CTO of LG Chem, on materials, and Executive Director Lee Sang-yeop, CTO of LG Uplus, on telecommunications. The networking session was led by Vice President Kim Byung-hoon, CTO of LG Electronics, and Executive Director Kim Je-young, CTO of LG Energy Solution.
Reflecting feedback from last year’s attendees, LG extended technical lectures from 20 minutes to 40 minutes and expanded small-group technical presentations for 2-3 people. Additionally, the presenters were composed of experts in their 30s and 40s to facilitate communication at the level of master's and doctoral students.
A new program emphasizing the 'participation' of invited talents was also introduced. Beyond passive listening, attendees introduced their research topics or achievements in fields such as genetics, new drug development, batteries, and materials, receiving feedback from LG employees and other participants. Attendees used a reservation system to select LG senior employees responsible for AI, big data, bio, materials, telecommunications, and media technologies to schedule meetings and communicate.
LG prepared various programs throughout the venue that Generation Z attendees could enjoy, including photo booths and conversations with AI humans using Exa-won.
In the space called 'Tech Conference Study Room,' designed with a university department room concept, attendees could directly experience LG products and relax. They experienced various technologies, including electric vehicles equipped with LG Energy Solution batteries, as well as unreleased products.
LG stated that LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo will focus on supporting the acquisition of talent across affiliates to nurture future entrepreneurs and consider the future workforce structure from a mid- to long-term perspective. Chairman Koo participated in last year’s event wearing the same hoodie as the attendees. At that time, he said, "The size of your dreams determines the future," and "I hope your thoughts on dreams and growth bear even greater fruit."
