The Ministry of Science and ICT held a symposium on the 4th to explore the utilization of the Korean Positioning System (KPS).
This event was organized to proactively reflect the demands of the private sector, a key pillar for the success of the KPS project, which will see 3.7 trillion KRW invested in research and development from 2022 to 2035. Companies providing mobile, transportation, location-based, and communication services such as Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company, Kakao Mobility, Naver, Woowa Brothers, Socar, Korean Air, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, as well as companies developing satellite navigation receivers and utilization solutions including LIG Nex1, Hanwha Aerospace, Micro Infinity, Duksan Nepes, iOps, Inseong International, PPsol, and ST Sunlab attended the event.
Lee Chang-yoon, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, emphasized, “For the public to conveniently use KPS, the role of our companies developing products and services utilizing it is very important,” and stated, “To ensure that KPS, a core infrastructure of the future space economy era, is well utilized, we will actively reflect private sector opinions from the development process of KPS and continue this engagement even after the launch of the Space Agency.”
